The King & Queen of the Points is on from today at Manu Bay, and through the weekend. With 160 surfers entered for the last surfing competition of the summer, it’s always a chance for local surfers to get involved in some competition and it will  especially be a chance for local champion Billy Stairmand to reclaim the King of the Points title after a year off in 2023.

Current Queen of the Points and local surfer Brie Bennet will be looking to retain her title against Aimee Brown, Estella Hungerford, Elin Tawharu , Ariana Shewry and Liv Haysom amongst others.

Top seeded surfers Jarrod Hancox and Taylor Hutchison, plus Jack Hinton, Callum Chuter, and Luke Griffin are looking to take on Billy for the King of the Points title - and heaps of local surfers have signed up for the weekend including Tom Robinson, Kora Cooper, Navryn Malone, Luke Hughes, Tana Clapham, Mikey Banks, Chris Malone, Larry Fisher and the infamous Luke Cederman.

Local Groms Tana Clapham, Theo Morse, Luke Dymond, Luca Thompson, Van Camenzind, Indi Corcoran and Xander Banks will be jumping in along with Alani Morse who has just returned from the World Junior Champs with teammates Spencer Rowson,Tai Murphy, Poppy Arkle and Lola Groube.

As well as the 4 main divisions there will be the Quicksilver Expression Session and a signing session with  Tom Carroll, Kehu Butler, Joel Vaughan, Dimity Stoyle, Jesse Starling and Coco Cairns today.

The surf conditions are OK today and looking a bit mediocre for Saturday and Sunday but there will be waves available even if they’re not too flash.

In other sports news the Whaingaroa Whai League Team is back in Ngarauwahia this weekend taking on Taniwharau. The Whai are sitting at 4th place on the table after beating Hauraki Tigers last weekend but they’re taking on the top of the table team who have yet to lose a game. That match will be at 1pm.

Also at 1pm but at  Hillcrest Park, the Raglan Roosters will be taking on the Azizams who are one place below them on the Waikato Sunday League Division 1 table. The Roosters solidified their spot at second place last weekend with an 8-0 victory against Gorkhali FC with number 1 striker Marti notching up a whopping 4 goals.

And in general news Kiwis Against Seabed Mining have organised a bus up to the Stop The Fast Track protest in Auckland on June 8th, you can get a ticket via the KASM website or social media but seats are selling fast. Described as a march for nature, the protest will be in Aotea Square at 1pm and with any luck will take over Queen Street.
