Raglan News Bulletin Tuesday 16 July 2024

WDC have said that the new Wi Neera Walkway path in Raglan will open with temporary balustrades this Friday but will close again in August for final balustrade and handrail installations. At the northern end, sea wall repairs were completed in November 2023, low-hanging branches were removed, and Watercare replaced the water main feeding across to Papahua.

The culvert upgrade and flood remediation project on Cambrae Road, Raglan, addresses a 2020 abatement notice served to the Waikato District Council. The project involves replacing the undersized culvert pipe, mitigating flooding impacts and restoring disturbed areas. As of June 2024, the large stormwater culvert upgrade is complete and operational, having passed its first two rain event tests without issues. Grass strike and stabilisation are being monitored, though progress is slow due to colder and wetter weather. The abatement notice will be lifted once stabilisation exceeds 80% cover and silt-fencing is removed.

The Papahua Recreation Reserve Car Park upgrade will widen the road, seal the overflow parking entrance to the sports grounds, and install speed humps along Marine Parade. Construction starts mid-July and will be completed by the end of September 2024. Meanwhile, the Wainui Beach Car Park upgrade, involving new asphalt on the entrance, exit, and top car park, is nearly finished, with only line marking remaining.
