Raglan News Bulletin Friday 19th May

The completion of Raglan’s Town2Surf cycleway is on the horizon, says Waikato District Council. The Town2Surf  cycle way is the council's name for the creation of a wide footpath running from the Papahua walkbridge, through the soccer fields, along Wainui Rd and heading toward the beach via the Wainui Bushpark.

Waikato District Alliance was onsite last week to install new drainage culverts and catchpits subsoils on both sides of Wainui Road, with a new  kerb and channel both sides of the road due soon, hopefully it will all be finished by next week.

For those concerned about how their rates are being spent, there is no need to worry because funding came via the Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund from your taxes instead.

The second batch of Art2Wear tickets went on sale this morning at 8pm and were sold out just after 9am.  The tickets are for 2 shows at 2 and 7pm in the Town Hall on Saturday 27th May. For those that missed out a collection of the best entries will be available for viewing - but not touching - at the Old School in the days following the show.

And there are disruptions on the Divvy again, this time as the temporary bypass road is dismantled and workers seal and mark the new (old) repaired road. Expect stop go signals and delays if you’re travelling on SH23.

In local sport, the Whaingaroa Whai rugby league team is playing one of their few games in Raglan this Saturday, 1pm at the Rugby grounds on Cross St. For their first season they are affiliated with the Taharoa club and will be playing most of their home games down the coast. This weekend though is a great chance for locals to turn out in force to show their support.

The Raglan Roosters football team will also be playing at home this Sunday, 1pm at Papahua. It’s the first round of the Scottish Cup, the Waikato Sunday League knockout competition and they will be playing the Vikings who are currently top of the 3rd division, two divisions below the Roosters.
