Raglan New Bulletin Friday 5th May 2023

Complaints about queues at the Electric Vehicle charger by the Town Hall have been heard and WEL Networks was in town on Wednesday to talk to the Community Board about installing a second one. Although not finalised yet, Stewart St is likely to be the location for a second charger.

Complaints about the Te Uku Recycling drop off continue with illegal dumping still causing overloads despite more regular pick up days being approved by the council. It’s uncommon to have dumping stations with no staff and with government waste levies increasing year on year the incentive to dump illegally is getting stronger and making the Te Uku site less and less viable.

After years of complaining about rates being too high Waikato District Council says they might try something new with the new Long Term Plan. According to staff at the recent community board meeting they’re thinking about asking ratepayers which services they would like to cut in order to get rates to a lower level - which might lead to some interesting answers.

Canada Geese are causing more and more problems for both the harbour and local farms and it’s likely to get  worse with the Regional Council, District Council, Fish and Game and the Government all saying they don’t have a firm plan to deal with the problem. Farmers say they are doing massive culls on their properties but that it barely makes a dent in the invading population.

Waikato District Council is asking the public for suggestions for new trails in the district saying to please get in touch if you’ve got an idea for the location of a trail for walking, biking or horse riding. There’s no promise that the trails will get built immediately but they will go into the council database where a ranking system will determine what the priority trails are.
