Raglan News Bulletin Monday 11th November 2024

A public meeting on the future of sewerage treatment in Whaingaroa has been announced for Tuesday 19th November, 6pm in the Raglan Club. As well as presenting on the new membrane bioreactor which will raise the standard of treatment to much higher levels, the community will hear about the proposal for a land based discharge system for Whaingaroa.

After years of community consultation and technical investigations Council is favouring the option of a land-based discharge onto a gully at Wainui Reserve.  Further investigation into the soils at the reserve will be ongoing over summer but the reserve has been identified as the best option following fruitless negotiations with developers. If you can’t make it to the presentation, staff will also be holding pop-up sessions in Raglan later in the summer, with dates to be confirmed.

Whaingaroa Palestine Solidarity is putting out a call out to artists and crafts people to donate works for an exhibition and auction to raise funds to go to the Palestinian Australian New Zealand Medical Association. The local group describes the efforts as; a small way to take action in front of the on-going genocide in Palestine.

The Te Mata Community is taking the chance to fully refurbish their community hall after winning the chance of a full redecoration from The Hits radio station and Resese. A $1000 donation from the Raglan RSA has kicked off a fundraiser that aims to get $80,000 together for some extra roofing, cladding and structural work. The recently formed fundraiser committee are currently shopping for good deals on materials, organising scaffolding, starting a givealittle page  and planning to bring back the old district barbecue in February to help things along.

Following another busy weekend that included the Freedom2Fly Festival and Raglan Community Radio’s 30th Birthday Celebration with Cornerstone Roots, the community is looking ahead to further celebrations at the end of the month with the Raglan Theatre Academy performing their Neverending Story Show on the weekend of Saturday 30th November and 2st December and Whaingaroa Youth Moving having announced their 22nd annual show; Life On Mars, for the following weekend, 7th and 8th of December.
