The Raglan Community Board is meeting in the Te Uku Community Hall at 1:30pm today, Wednesday 18th June. Locals are invited to pop down to the hall and talk to the board about any council issues they’re concerned about.

On their agenda is the future of roading in Whaingaroa, along with plans for recreation reserves and sports parks, as well as Wainui Reserve.

Meanwhile council staff have said that while temporary repairs to the treated wastewater outfall pipe in Raglan have been completed, a permanent solution is still required to prevent future failure.

Design work for the final repair is complete but the outfall pipe crosses private land so access requires careful consideration.  WDC says they remain committed to working in good faith and in partnership with mana whenua to find a constructive path forward.

It’s Matariki this weekend and the Old School is putting on a hangi with tickets available at the Community House, they’ve also got an art exhibition and an introduction to Mau Rakua workshop with Tux Severne.

The Harbourview Hotel is celebrating the 120th anniversary of their new building. There were two previous hotels that burnt down around the turn of the previous century but the latest version has managed to stand the test of time and they’re calling on locals who’ve got stories or old photos of the hotel to get in touch.

They’re also planning a big community celebration and are looking for volunteers and for  businesses and youth to be involved. They say they have already organised  classic cars, aircraft and live entertainment for the day - which will be Sunday 5th October.

Also on our announcements list the entire 13-man crew of the Mudsharks will be headlining the 2nd Raglan Country and Blues festival on Labour weekend this year. In Local sport the Whingaroa Whai League team have maintained their second place position on the Waikato Senior A division by beating Marakopa by 56 - 10 although there is a photo on social media of the ground scoreboard showing a 60 - 10 scoreline. Either way it’s a thumping and the Whai are continuing their good form.

Meanwhile the Raglan Roosters Football team also maintained their position second from the bottom Division One of the Waikato Football Sunday League by losing 6-nil to the Al Rasool boys in Hamilton last Sunday.
