Raglan News Bulletin Friday 17th March 2023

It’s a big weekend in Raglan with the 23rd edition of the Rip Curl Pro Surf Competition taking place over Saturday and Sunday. We have predictions of good conditions in the form of a 14-16 second WSW swell and overhead glassy conditions at the business end of the weekend.

Dune Kennings and Pia Rogers are looking to carry on their impressive start to the season after securing national titles at Piha in January and although Billy Stairmand is away there is still a huge contingent of locals entering including 2021 Rip Curl Pro Raglan winner Taylor Hutchison, 2022 NZ Surf Series winner Caleb Cutmore, junior powerhouses, Kora Cooper, Navryn Malone, and Tana Clapham and a number of local legends including Mikey and Xander Banks, Chris Malone, Larry Fisher, Luke Hughes and  Luke Cederman.

A strong Women’s field is also expected including locals Brie Bennett,  Alani Morse, Maya Mateja, Kiri Binnersley and Lilly McDonald.

Adding to the busy weekend is the Whaingaroa Healthy Living Expo on Saturday from 10am in the town hall.  Boasting exponents of many, many health modalities the event includes a big line up of local presentations and workshops throughout the day in the supper room while the main hall will have a range of stalls including Mamamuti Cacao, through the Botanical Baker to Shamanic Quantum Healing.

Talks include homoeopath Tracey Bonnington and midwife Mela Levinsohn along with Raglan Community Radio regulars Mike Jewell talking about Wellness, Ngaronoa Renata with Medicinal Teas and Jason Marinovich on Stress Relief.

Elsewhere  Waikato District Council is looking for three community representatives for its Creative Communities Scheme.

The main role of the reps is to consider applications and allocate funding for arts and culture projects in the Waikato district.

They say it's a great opportunity to learn more about the creative sector of our district, to help art activities thrive, to give back to the local art community and celebrate the diversity that art brings to our communities.
