Raglan News Bulletin Monday 29th April 2024

Access to the footbridge to Papahua, from Bow St will be closed from today, Monday 29th  April.  The project to widen the path between the Bow St jetty and the footbridge is starting this morning with a work crew replacing the water pipe first up.

Once the water pipe is in place, construction of a new 70 metre long, 2.9m wide cantilevered footpath and handrail will begin. It will replace the existing dodgy narrow path that hurts when you fall down the side.

Construction will be complete by early August. Until then access to the footbridge and across to Papahua will be from the end of the walkway by the backpackers.

Also starting today there will be 3 weeks of daytime stop/go traffic management just outside Raglan, at the corner of Greenslade Road and SH23. This is to fix up an embankment on the left after just after the intersection - and not to do the long awaited  safety work at that intersection. Waka Kotahi says the work will be completed by 20 May but until then we have weekday stop/go traffic management between 9am and 3pm, with delays of up to 10 minutes expected. Outside of these times and over weekends the road will be fully open, but with shoulder closures and speed restrictions in place.

Jo's Takeaways will be taking their annual holiday starting today Monday 29th April. And won’t be reopening until 15th May.

A Hot compost workshop has been scheduled for 1:30 pm this coming saturday at Waitetuna school. The afternoon workshop will be held by Ruapouke gardens compost wizard  Shai Brod. More news as it comes in.

In local sport the Raglan Roosters notched up a massive win in the Waikato Football Sunday league yesterday beating Komposure FC by  9 - 1. Fraser walked off the pitch with a hat-trick after a barnstorming game upfront.  The result leaves the Roosters at the top of the divisions 1 table and Komposure FC at the bottom thanks to their ridiculous goal differences.

The Whaingaroa Whai rugby league team had a bad weekend at home despite good crowd support going down 32 - 16 to the Hauraki Tigers leaving them
