Raglan News Bulletin Monday 20 March 2023

Dreamview Creamery, Raglan Chocolate and Raglan Gelato had their grand opening yesterday afternoon at Dreamview Farm. A crowd of friends and supporters were on hand to help the organisations celebrate the completion of their new facilities after all three started off as a small idea with a tiny customer base, before growing into full time occupations for their families.

Finding expansion almost impossible in a town with limited real estate options, the location next to the Dreamview Creamery was perfect for Raglan Chocolate  and Raglan Gelato who also use Dreamview’s milk in their products.  Both businesses were very happy to move out of their basement and the Old School kitchen respectively.

The first Whaingaroa Healthy Living Expo held this weekend was a huge success with the town hall buzzing throughout the day with a full complement of stall holders and an enthusiastic public. With talks and workshops about a wide range of topics including, fermentation, wellness, stress relief, permaculture, yoga, birth and Homeopathy there was plenty for people to take in.  Before the day was out organisers were already saying they’ll be doing it again next year.

The Raglan Community Board will be meeting this Wednesday at 1:30pm in the town hall supper room with discussion expected to focus on the Traffic and Public PLaces Bylaws which are open for public feedback at the moment. Xtreme Zero Waste, Raglan Naturally and the new WDC Roading Manager are all expected to be present.

In sports news;  Mount Maunganui’s Tim O’Connor and Christchurch surfer Ava Henderson claimed titles on perfect waves at the Rip Curl Pro at Manu Bay yesterday.

The two surfers put on exceptional performances, O’Connor surfing to a 14.90 point heat total and Henderson a 14.15 point total.

Local Caleb Cutmore came in third with 13.85 points but did win the The Volkswagen Highest Heat Score of the Day Award for a 17.10 point heat total in the semis

Maya Mateja made it as far as the semis in the women’s comp while Luke Hughes, who wasn’t even sure he was going to enter the event the week beforehand turned back the clock making it to the semis as well.  Taylor Hutchinson, Tom Robinson and Luca Thomson also made it to the quarters in the mens.

They were part of a large Raglan contingent that included Brie Bennet, Alani Morse, Kiri Binnersely, Lani Fraserhurst and Lily McDonald, as well as  Van Camenzind, Larry Fisher, Theo Morse, Chris Malone, Mikey Banks, Luke Dymond, Tana Clapham, Navryn Malone, Sam Mathers, Xander Banks, and Kora Cooper.

The series heads south after Raglan with events at Dunedin and Christchurch in the next month before returning to Raglan to conclude the season in May.
