Raglan News Bulletin Monday 9th May 2022

The Point Boardriders have claimed the 2022 Hurley New Zealand Boardriders Club Championships in an emphatic victory at Whangamata yesterday.

Led by their senior team member Larry Fisher, Point Boardriders claimed the tag team title as well as a one-two finish in the Open Men’s Division through Taylor Hutchison and Caleb Cutmore, a win by Kora Cooper in the Under 18 Boys, and thirds by Brie Bennett in the Open Women’s Division and team captain Larry Fisher in the Senior Men’s Division.

They have won the right to be New Zealand’s representative at the Usher Cup to be held on Australia’s Gold Coast in January 2023, the first global team surfing event.

Dreamview Creamery is running out of milk bottles with over 2000 having disappeared after being put into circulation since they started delivering milk around Raglan. They’ve said they’ll be charging for missing bottles from now on but we’re suggesting it might be nice if people could show their support for a local business and return any bottles they might be using for other purposes.

And the council’s legal team is asking people to go easy on them at the moment after being affected by covid they’re now swamped with requests for things like subdivisions and land use consents. They also provide general legal advice to the council to make sure  the rest of the team don't accidentally get the council in a pickle and end up in court.

And in other local sport news both the men’s Rugby team and the Roosters football team were stood up by the opposition this weekend. Hopefully it’s not a sign of what will happen for the rest of the season as people are still isolating with covid but the default by Huntly means the Rugby team is sitting unbeaten in second place in the division 2 competition while the Roosters football team, who were stood up by Marist FC had a kick around with the seniors boys team from Raglan Area School and are now 3rd from the top of the table after just two games.
