Raglan News Bulletin Friday 18th August 2023

The Raglan Community is rallying around again after a fire at Whale Bay has seen community members rendered homeless. There is a fundraiser from 5 to 10pm tonight at Indies where anyone who can get some baking together is being asked to bring in some food to sell to the public in a cash-only fundraiser.

The Yard has announced that Don Mcglashan will be playing there on 7th September as part of his 22-date Take It To The Bridge nationwide tour. Well loved for his solo work Don was also a key member of The Muttonbirds, The Front Lawn and Blam Blam Blam who made their first release in the early 80s. He will also no doubt be playing songs off his new album Bright November Morning which went straight to number one on the New Zealand album charts when it was released last year

In local sport Kaitawhiti Kereopa and his New Zealand Waka Ama team have won the silver medal at the International Va’a World Distance Champs in Samoa.  They were pipped by Tahiti in the J19 24km race during the week - with the event wrapping up today.

The local women’s league team wrapped up their first season with a win over a Waikato invitational team in Te Awamutu last weekend.  The all new Whaingaroa Whai mens and womens teams both had successful inaugural seasons, including a number of  first ever victories this year as they entered the competition with help from the Taharoa rugby league club.

In football news the Raglan Roosters won their Scottish Cup quarter final last weekend by 3 goals to nil against the Tron Tigers - a team from the second division - and they’ll face POTFC in the semifinal at the end of the month. In the meantime they’re taking on Ruakura FC this weekend at Papahua at 1pm as part of the Waikato Sunday League  division 1 competition.
