Agenda Highlights:
Structure Plan The Community Board has expressed a desire to explore the possibility of more commercial space around the town centre and additional industrial land on the fringes of Raglan. This will be considered in connection with the Long-Term Plan (LTP).
Community Board Plan - Environmental Goals
Key objectives include:
- Holding a meeting with Waikato District Council, Waikato Regional Council, Waikato Tainui, and mana whenua to discuss opportunities for native planting and ecological restoration.
- Advocating for the protection of natural heritage and environmental initiatives.
- Establishing a group of passionate community members to support environmental projects.
- Promoting resilience planning, including climate mitigation measures, through various channels.
Social Wellbeing Initiatives
- Advocating for walkways and green spaces to improve community connectivity.
- Supporting public transport to enhance accessibility.
- Engaging the community in planning processes.
- Ensuring regular communication with residents regarding Board meetings and local matters.
Alcohol Ban Review
Waikato District Council is reviewing the Alcohol Control Bylaw 2020, with formal consultation planned for April/May 2025. Before enforcing a ban, the Council must establish evidence of a high level of crime or disorder in the area. Police data for Raglan reports 192 crimes over five years, including 46 traffic offences in 2022.
Wi Neera South End Walkway Consent applications have been lodged with both Waikato Regional Council and Waikato District Council.
Sewage and Wastewater: A Coastal Reserve Stakeholder Meeting on wastewater issues has yet to be scheduled.
Civil Defence The next Civil Defence meeting is set for Tuesday, 18 February.
Overflow Parking at Wainui The system is reported to be working well, with a contract in place.
Soundsplash Festival The event went well, with minimal incidents reported.
CCTV Installation The design phase is underway to estimate costs and prepare documentation for market supplier selection.
Greenslade Road Reserve Playground The selection process for a contractor is currently in progress.
Campground Stormwater Works Stormwater upgrades are complete, with additional work to fill low spots set to commence after the peak season.
Discretionary Fund Allocation
The Community Board's discretionary fund currently stands at $9,696.04. Funding applications under consideration include:
- Raglan Old School: $1,000 for ‘Live & Local’ music events.
- Ngunguru i te Pō me te Ao Safety Education Trust: $60,195.50 for a waka shed.
- Youthtown Ltd.: $10,797 for cycling education in Raglan, Waitetuna, and an additional school (details incomplete).
- At the previous Raglan Community Board meeting, funding support for the Town Hall was agreed upon, though it is absent from the current agenda.
