Waikato District Council has announced Anchor Inn as the new name for the chip shop at Papaphua after they gave the lease to long-time locals, Tina Ireson, Warrick Harris, and their son Sam Harris
With the headline, “C-hip c-hip hooray – Anchor Inn will have you hooked,” the council press release goes on to say that they received 16 strong applicants to take over the lease at the iconic seaside spot.
Since opening on 4th December, the trio have been busy, “We’ve got pretty sore feet and may need to buy some new shoes, but everything has been going really well,” Warrick said before adding that it was “a bit of hard work getting everything ready, but we’re loving every minute of it,” and that, ” Everyone has been so welcoming,”
The government has passed an amendment to the fast-track regime under urgency, backtracking on several of the more controversial proposals in the process.
They’re changing, a clause that constrained expert panels’ ability to seek expert comment
They’ve clarified that the Infrastructure Minister can’t override the EPA’s statutorily independent functions;
A proposal to enable fast-track applicants to formally complain about an independent panel member has been scrapped, as have a couple of attempts to put time limits on the panels.
“That didn’t go down well with people, so we’ve backtracked on that one – the feedback was voluminously negative”, said Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop
However, clauses enabling ministers to influence the panels by issuing government policy statements will remain.
