Council Comment with John Lawson

The next Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, at 1:30 pm in the Town Hall. During the meeting, there will be a public forum at the beginning, providing an opportunity for discussions on various issues. Alternatively, you can choose to contact the Board via email or phone.

The agenda for Wednesday's meeting includes several items:

  1. Stormwater Management Committee: There seems to be confusion about its existence, as staff are not aware of it. The last Raglan Stormwater Liaison Group meeting was on June 29, 2023. Should you attend the next one if it exists?
  2. Te Uku Recycling Centre: A report indicates ongoing issues with fly tipping and overflowing at the site.
  3. Whaanga Rd Metalling: Mr. D Amoore will consult with the Roading team regarding this matter.
  4. Footpath obstruction by cafes: Mr. D Amoore will consult with Council staff on this issue.
  5. Wi Neera Walkway: Tree work is scheduled for April 30th and May 1st, followed by water main installation by Watercare. Path and balustrade construction will commence from mid-May, with completion expected by the end of July. However, there's no mention of the southern part of the walkway.
  6. Civil Defence: Another meeting is being planned for May.
  7. Freedom camping: Discussions with residents of James Street are ongoing.
  8. CCTV: Exploring alternative options and reaching out to individual contractors.
  9. Greenslade Rd Reserve playground: Residents will be asked their preference between a standard playground or a natural one.
  10. Community Board Plans: Mr. Rayner will contact the Council’s Community-Led Development Advisor.
  11. Wainui Beach & Papahua Recreation Reserve car parks: Approval for the contract award is pending.
  12. Soundsplash: Verbal update.
  13. Privet: No update available.
  14. Wharf: Opening ceremony scheduled for May 3rd.
  15. Campground: Main kitchen contract has been awarded, and various upgrades are planned.
  16. Councillors Reports and Board Members’ Reports: Verbal updates.
  17. Funding rounds: No change reported.
  18. Discretionary fund: Currently, there's $2,925 available, as the Lions Club hasn’t submitted a $1,200 invoice for New Year parade traffic management. Ruapuke Beach Care is seeking $1,296.39.

Items not on the agenda but worth considering for future meetings include updates on Waters Governance Board, sewage rebuild, public transport, sewage zoom, policy resolutions, infrastructure projects, waste management, and various community issues like road safety, environmental initiatives, and recreational facilities.

Should Wednesday's meeting address these issues or prioritise others?
