Upcoming Raglan Community Board Meeting – Wednesday 30 July

The next Raglan Community Board (RCB) meeting is happening on Wednesday 30 July at 1.30pm in the Supper Room, Raglan Town Hall. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and speak during the public forum, held near the beginning of the meeting. Alternatively, you can email or phone board members to raise issues.

What’s on the agenda?

The meeting agenda is relatively short at 25 pages, plus 26 pages of funding applications, but it includes updates on key local matters:

  • Wainui Reserve 30-Year Plan
    Stakeholder engagement is coming up as part of a staged development plan. Council says it’s “an important opportunity for current users to help shape the future of the reserve.”

  • Stormwater Maintenance
    2.83 km of CCTV inspection and 1.7 km of network flushing have been completed. A total of 28 tonnes of sediment has been removed from Raglan’s 26 km stormwater network.

  • Sewage
    The Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) upgrade is set to start in August.

  • Water Supply Renewals

    • Point Street & Tutchen Ave: 95% complete

    • Papahua Reserve: 25% complete

  • CCTV
    Still in the tender phase for camera installation.

  • Greenslade Rd Reserve Playground
    Physical works are expected to begin in August.

  • Wi Neera South End Walkway
    Upgrades are now complete.

  • Soundsplash
    No update provided.

  • Discretionary Fund
    Current balance: $4,906.04
    Funding applications ($1,000 each) have been received from:

    • Raglan Naturally – Busking Day (Sunday 9 November)

    • Tumanako Whāingaroa – Mental Health Gumboot Day (Saturday 15 November at Papahua)

    • Te Uku Hall – Mural Project

    • Surfside – Christmas at Wi Neera (Sunday 14 December)

  • Board Member Reports – Verbal updates only.

Not on the RCB Agenda – But On Other Council Agendas

Some important issues relevant to Raglan are being discussed elsewhere across council committees:

  • Raglan Aerodrome
    Stakeholder meeting held – staff are preparing a plan to report back to Council.

  • Long Term Plan

    • The RCB plan process was reportedly seen by some board members as a “waste of time.”

    • Sewage resource consents for Raglan and Matangi to be lodged by September.

    • A $5.3 million discharge-to-land project is underway.

  • Waste and Recycling
    XZW reportedly diverts over 50% of material entering their site.

  • Beaches Bylaw Workshop (7 July)

    • 19 people drowned at Papanui Point (1989–2024); 47% were of Asian descent, 60% from Hamilton.

    • Coroner recommends lifejackets.

    • Future consultation (March 2026) on horses, alcohol bans, and beach safety.

  • Policy (28 July)
    Raglan Fish Ltd received a Notice of Direction over use of treated wood in fish smoking. Following investigation and a follow-up visit, the business is now compliant.

  • Infrastructure (23 July)

    • Nicholls & Uttinger Ltd have completed multiple slip repairs, including Raglan and Ohautira Roads.

    • Lorenzen Bay Reserve upgrade proposals include native planting, nature play areas, better access, a boardwalk to Greenslade Rd, and educational signage (see agenda pg. 99).

  • Open Spaces: $5.89 million

  • Facilities: $4.50 million

  • Roading: $36.63 million

  • Strategic Property: $412k

  • Waste Services: $491k
