A group of Raglan U14 girls competed in the Weir Rose Bowl football tournament held at St Peter’s school in Cambridge over the weekend of the 26th – 28th of September 2025. The team was made up of a combination of girls from the two Raglan U14 girls football teams, the Karioi Kahawai and the Whai Rahi and led by coach Marty Kroon.
Competition was tough with some of NZ’s best U14 girls teams attending the tournament from Wellington, Auckland, Northland, Bay of Plenty and the Waikato.
The weekend started with some heavy losses but the team bounced back with a big win and a hard fought draw on day 2, the 2nd game being one of the highlights of the weekend. The 3rd day started with a loss before playing in the 5th place final against Cambridge. In the final the girls went down 2-0 but fought back for a 2-2 draw forcing a penalty shoot out. It was a nerve wracking way to end the tournament but Raglan pulled through winning the penalty shootout 4-3.
Competing at the Weir Rose Bowl was a major milestone for a junior team from Raglan. The tournament offered tough challenges and an invaluable opportunity, leaving the girls with new skills, inspiration and lasting memories.
They represented Raglan well and should be very proud of their efforts and achievements.
