A state-of-the art upgrade to Raglan’s Wastewater Treatment Plant officially opened yesterday, 5th August with Tainui O Tainui Environmental Spokesperson Angeline Greensill calling it a “great day”, and describing the new facility as “awesome”, before reminding everyone that the job wasn’t done with the land-based disposal option at Wainui Reserve still in the planning stages.
Following the blessing by Mana Whenua, Angeline recounted the story of Raglan County Council choosing a sacred site “on the Maori side of town” to process the town’s wastewater and the 50 year campaign to undo the damage.
The new plant discharges near drinking quality treated wastewater. Mayor Jacqui Church and Councillors were photographed dipping their hands in the outflow and project Manager Peter Crabb presented samples showing it to be clearer than water taken from the Waikato and Waipa rivers.
The plant has been future proofed with enough capacity to handle a doubling of the Raglan urban population.
A givealittle page has been set up for local Mum Kay and her family to help them out after they lost their car when it crashed into loose stock on the road. Community members have taken it upon themselves to help the family get a new set of wheels and have a page at https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/urgently-needing-a-car-for-me-and-my-whanau
Longtime Raglan Community Radio supporter Alan Lovegrove, owner of Raglan Video from 1997 – 2018 has passed away. Alan Sponsored the Kiwi Music Show in the early 2000s and continued to support the station up until the video store closed. His contribution to the station was greatly appreciated and following an endless flow of tributes on social media over the last couple of days, it’s clear our community misses his welcoming presence in the old store.
Alan passed away peacefully on 28th July 2025, surrounded by his loving family – and a service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday 8th August, 11:00am at White Rose Chapel, 75 Cook Street, Hamilton East.
