Xtreme Zero Waste is warning the community about the dangers of Lithium batteries . With a recent rubbish compactor truck fire in Hamilton caused by a lithium battery there are plenty of reminders that we need to be careful.
Lithium batteries can ignite when under pressure and are extremely difficult to put out with a tendency to keep reigniting often making it necessary to wait for the battery to finish what it’s doing before the fire can be put out.
Xtreme is asking us to keep these batteries out of the pre paid bags, compactor truck, landfill loads and kerbside recycling as well. Electrical devices need to be bought up to site to be recycled and/or disposed of safely and correctly.
Organisers of the Whaingaroa Talent Factory are reminding the community that entries for the event close this weekend and that any 13-18 year old aspiring musicians, MCs, DJs or singers should go to Whaingaroa Talent Factory on social media to sign up.
The Old School Arts Centre is also reminding film makers that entries are now open for the next Raglan Film Festival but that the date of the festival and RAFFA film awards has been put back to the end of next summer to work in with both the old school and students calendars. Entries close in October but films don’t need to be in until 1st March next year.
In local sport Raglan has another national champion in the form of Caleb Cutmore who won the NZ surf series after leapfrogging Talyor Huchison with a good showing in the King and Queen of the Points event at Manu Bay this weekend. This gives Raglan a rare one-two win in the series with Kalani Louis 3rd, Jarred Hancox 4th and Tyler Perry 5th.
In the women’s series her victory over the weekend wasn’t enough to get Brie Bennett into the top 5 so the women’s surf series went to Pia Rogers from Whangamata and Natasha Gouldsbry 2nd. Liv Haysom who has done a lot of surfing in Raglan over the last few years was 3rd and 12 year old local Alani Morse was 4th after her best performance of the season brought her up into the top 5 just ahead of Leah MIllar. https://raglanradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Brie-bennet.png
