Raglan News Bulletin Monday 24 April 2023

The  Raglan ANZAC Day Parade and Ceremony will be held at 11am at the Cenotaph on Bow Street. The parade will form in Wainui Road and march into Bow Street. The event will include, amongst other things, the traditional flag raising, laying of wreaths  and speeches from local Kaumatua Sean Ellison and Raglan Area School Head Students Emma Higgins and Luke Dymond.

(listen to the interview below:) Emeritus Professor Jane Ritchie OBE passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 . A trailblazing academic in  her own right, she was wife to the late Professor James Ritchie, and together they pioneered the non-violent parenting movement in Aotearoa and were important figures in banning corporal punishment in schools. The first woman to graduate with a PHD in psychology from a New Zealand university, a service was held honouring her life at the University of Waikato on Monday, April 24, 2023.

Raglan Museum will be open in the afternoon with a pop-up ANZAC exhibition. The Xtreme Zero Waste site will be closed all day for ANZAC day but the curbside pickup team will be starting the run for Raglan West and the Bays (in the kakariki zone) at midday.

There has been another fatal crash on SH23 this weekend with the highway closed on Saturday after two people died and the driver of a delivery truck  was injured on the Raglan side of the deviation. The road was closed between Te Pahu Rd and Waitetuna Valley Road for much of the day with a detour around Waitetuna Valley Rd, Fillery Road and Limeworks Loop Road In local sport New Zealand Surf Series leader Taylor Hutchinson may have lost his lead of the series after only making it to the semis of the Exit Surf Men’s Canterbury Championship sin this weekends  but Last year’s winner Caleb Cutmore stood up for Raglan and won the event with a 13.06 score in the final this weekend.
