Applications close for the Whaingaroa Talent Factory, this Thursday. If you’ve got a 13-18 year old in your life who wants the chance to be mentored by professional musicians and to play in a professional setup to a supportive crowd at the Raglan Town Hall tell them to look up whaingaroatalentfactory on social media to sign up.
Mentor sessions will be held at the start of the school holidays with the music showcase being held on Saturday 4th October in the Town Hall.
Another event being held in the town hall this weekend is a different type of celebration. Raglan Community Radio is hosting the Local Body election Meet the Candidate event for our community this Sunday at 2:30.
Candidates running for Mayor, Whaingaroa ward, Raglan Community Board and the Regional Council will be present to make their pitch for your vote. While we’re already preparing our questions for the candidates, there will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions from the floor as well.
While all this is going on the Raglan Community Board is also meeting today in the town hall supper room. It will be the last meeting before the election so we’re not expecting much action but are hoping for updates on the Wainui Reserve 30 year plan, a town plan for Raglan, stormwater and sewerage, and the town recreation study.
This will be the last chance to see the current board in their natural habitat.
Sad news now of another life lost off the coast. RNZ has reported that Police were alerted that a person had fallen in the water near Te Akau Split Rock at 10:40am on Saturday. A rescue helicopter found and recovered their body about an hour later.
Police said they were making enquiries but there has been no more news to date.
