Raglan Community Radio has announced that they will be hosting a Meet the Candidates event ahead of the General Election on Sunday 18th October in the Raglan Town Hall.
Candidates from both the Taranaki-King Country and the Hauraki-Waikato Electorates are invited to attend.
Candidates are expected from National, Labour, NZ First, ACT and Te Pati Maori. While no official candidate for the Green Party has been named, we understand that an announcement from someone local will be coming soon for the Taranaki-King Country electorate.
At least five police officers were dispatched to Raglan this morning to arrest a man outside the Laundrette on Bow St just after 8am. A long line of police cars was seen snaking over the Divvy with reports varying between five and seven vehicles. Officers on the scene declined to make comment but they came prepared with firearms and five officers at the scene to arrest the older and unwell looking male individual who chose not to put up a fight.
Hamilton City Council has released a white paper following the closure of the Government’s council merger Fast Track window. .A self described thought paper, called Metropolitan Growth Needs Metropolitan Governance, it’s a more deliberate look at how growing metro areas are planned, funded and governed. Hamilton City is making the argument that even though they chose not to make a submission to the Head Start program they should still be involved with the merger because cities have unique needs that aren’t being addressed.
In response, Waikato District Mayor Aksel Bech has said he hopes the government will “respect the criteria and paths that they themselves specified” after he spearheaded a plan for a Western Waikato Unitary Authority combining the five councils on the Waikato River.
Taupo district council has also requested an eight week pause and the chance to be involved in future decision making despite refusing to participate in the Head Start process.
In local sport the Raglan Roosters are on the field this Sunday, playing the Deezsciples at 1pm at Dominion Park. Currently propping up the bottom for the Division One Sunday Football League table, they’re in need of a couple of wins to prevent relegation at the end of the season.
