This year’s local elections will shape the future of Raglan and the wider Waikato. Voters will choose representatives for the Waikato District Council, including the mayor, councillors and community board, and two councillors for the Waikato Regional Council, which oversees environmental management, public transport and regional planning.
Alongside electing candidates, voters will also decide in a referendum on Māori wards, which would establish Māori representation from the 2028 elections. The outcome raises wider questions of representation, equity and local democracy.
