Barry Quayle has been voted in as the new Chair of Waikato Regional Council, after a majority of councillors backed the removal of Russ Rimmington from the top spot last week.

The extraordinary meeting of council was called after a requisition signed by eight councillors was delivered on 17 April 2022 after Russ Rimington appeared to have difficulties in the area of race issues. Russ says he accepts that Democracy has spoken but that he might be challenging the result..

Meatime, in Raglan this morning from 11 till 1 the library will be hosting fabulous drag queens Erika and CoCo Flash as part of their annual tour of New Zealand, They’ll be doing their Rainbow Storytime which is all about teaching folks of all ages about acceptance, anti-bullying, inclusion and having confidence in yourself.

Erika Flash is a 7-foot-tall blonde with so much volume in her hair and CoCo Flash is the bouncy disco diva stuck in the disco era, Rainbow Storytime is a free event, no booking is required. Suitable for all ages.

 

In local sports news the Raglan Roosters Football team were playing in the first round of the Sunday League knockout competition, the Scottish Cup. The beat Not Wad N Co from a lower division with Asa, Marty and Yannis all getting a goal each. The Men’s Rugby team were stood up by the opposition for their second time in 4 games this season. The result leaves them second on the division 2 table with only the points differential seperating them from Hamilton Old Boys.

Our Groms were competing in Gisborne over the weekend with Maya Mateja the stand out performer, she took out the girls U14 comp by a big margin while Theo Morse had his best ever results coming second in the U16 boys

Valentin Gadras made it to the semis of the U 18 boys while Luke Dymond and Ollie Greetis made it to the quarters

Kaia Frazerhurst made it to the semis of the U18 girls

While Alani Morse and Lola Groube got to the quarters of the U14 girls and Lani Frazerhurst made it to the finals alongside Maya Mateja
