Raglan News Bulletin Friday 9th December 2022

The Te Uku recycling depot is getting a council upgrade and will be closed for two weeks from Monday, December 5. XZW, who have been as keen as rural residents to get the site sorted out, is asking the local community to hold on to their recyclables for the two weeks and then come and enjoy the new safer, cleaner and more accessible facilities when council re-opens the space.

Pre-paid bags can be dropped off at the main Xtreme site, Okete Rd or Mangatawhiri Rd depots during this period.

Additionally, the Te Mata recycling depot is on the move to a safer location away from the school. This will be available for recyclables this summer.

Xtreme Zero Waste are also starting a pre-paid bags collection on some rural roads. From this Monday, December 12, and every Monday afterwards (incl public holidays) they will be picking up pre-paid bags from the kerb along Okete Rd, Bridal Creek Rd, Hauroto Bay Rd, Checkley Rd, Matakotea Rd, Wrights Rd & Te Mata Rd (up to and including the village)

They can’t do the main road because the traffic makes it too dangerous.

Residents will be pleased to know that this service will not incur an extra charge on their rates.

Over the last 2 weeks, there have been 59 offences or incidents that Police have attended in our area. They say this is a marked increase on what was previously being reported during winter and spring.

Attempts by offenders to steal vehicles have definitely increased and have been happening all over the town and include vehicles parked around the CBD during daylight hours.

Police are advising to lock your vehicles even when they are in your driveway, and especially overnight.  Putting the car in its garage is great but steering wheel locks are also a good deterrent.

Bayleys are advertising for a new café to be developed on Rangitahi Peninsula in 2023.  A new site will be developed over the next 2 months and they’re hoping to install a new cafe operator by the end of the year.

Designs of the cafe and kitchens can be seen through Bayleys.
