Raglan News Bulletin: Raglan’s Lost Property win at the regional Rockshop Bandquest and rates notice mixups

Waikato’s next generation of musicians lit up Clarence Street Theatre in Hamilton with Raglan’s Lost Property named winners of the regional Rockshop Bandquest.
The two-day event on August 28–29 drew 23 bands from schools across the region, all performing in front of a live audience as part of the nationwide competition for intermediate and primary school students.

Lost Property claimed the top spot on day two with a polished set that stood out among tough competition.

There’s been a slight mixup with your latest Waikato District Council rates notice. Although the rates themselves are correct, you might find a leaflet inside the envelope explaining how curb-side pickup costs have doubled but the leaflet was inserted by mistake and applies to households in the rest of the district and not Raglan.

Raglan is on a full user-pays system with 100% of the cost of dumping rubbish going onto the blue bags while other parts of the district subsidise their rubbish collection from the rating system. Council staff are gradually trying to bring the user pays approach to the rest of the district but it’s been met with some confusion up north.
This year Raglan’s 60L bag cost (from Kahu’s Nest) has gone up by two cents to $4.97

Waikato District Council is holding its last public information session about the proposed land based wastewater disposal system today, Wednesday 3rd September from 3pm to 6pm at the town.

This is the community’s last chance to have a chat with the team and offer some feedback. After this they will gather all the feedback and data together and make the resource consent application to the Regional Council.

Comedian Joana Joy has announced a second performance of her popular Miss Tui Whanganui 2009 show at the Old School this Friday. With tickets for the 8pm running out fast a 6pm show was added to humanitix last night.

A Best Newcomer nominee at the NZ International Comedy Festival 2024, Joana Joy was in Raglan recently with her Banana Jolie show which was received well by locals and is probably at the root of the sell-out of the first show. Tickets are available at the door but we recommend you book online and don’t leave it to chance if you want to go.
