Raglan News Bulletin: Wednesday 6th July

Raglan Food Co has taken out the supreme title at the Primary Industries Good Employer Awards. The local food manufacturer won the employee development award, along with the top gong.

Acting Minister of Agriculture Meka Whairiti said the event celebrated employers supporting employees by putting their health, welfare and wellbeing first The press release also noted that  private equity firm Pioneer Capital recently took a 75% stake in Raglan Food Co which was founded by Latesha Randall and Sebastian Walter in 2014 and now has more than 30 employees.

The Backdoor King and Queen is returning  to Manu Bay this July, as part of a truncated 2022 domestic New Zealand Surf Series.

Run from 22-24 July, over 150 participants will descend on Whaingaroa to battle it out across six divisions including the Under 20 and Under 16 Boys and Girls.

National Champion Daniel Farr who has just returned from Indonesia will be here along with local surfer and current title holder  Billy Stairmand who is stopping off as overseas duties take him from  South Africa to California for the US Open.

Brie Bennett will be competing in the U20 event and the majority of the New Zealand Junior Surfing Team will also be here..

In other local sport the Roosters football team had their first loss of the season losing narrowly to Garoon Academy in  Hamilton in a testy match that has seen them drop from 1st to fourth on the leaders board. And the Raglan Rugby team were defaulted for the third time this season – this time be Jaradites who failed to make it to Raglan on Saturday, the result means they’ve just made it into the semi finals where they will undoubtedly face the unbeaten Hamilton Old Boys Guzzlers.
