Raglan News Bulletin Monday 31st August

Entries are now open for the 2022 Whaingaroa Talent Factory, the music showcase where Rangatahi get to learn from professional musicians before putting on a show in the town hall.

The event was cancelled last year due to Covid but things are looking good for the show to be held on Friday 14th October at the end of the school holidays. The Talent Factory is for 13 -18 year olds who live in our area, including those who go to school in Hamilton.

To enter go to the Whaingaroa Talent Factory Facebook or Instagram feeds by Friday 16th September.

The Karioi Project has a call out for volunteers to help fill bait stations during an operation through September and October this year. They say you need to be reasonably fit and will be heading up the slopes of the Maunga on cut tracks on Tuesdays, but may do extra days if they get enough volunteers.  Check out the Karioi Project online to get in touch.

A dive team has started a marine pest survey of Raglan and other coastal Waikato marine areas.

They’re looking for pests called Mediterranean fanworm and clubbed tunicate which were only discovered in New Zealand a year ago. The clubbed truncate is a stubby little plant that grows in harbours and wharfs if you’re wondering.

Marine pests are mainly spread by heavily fouled vessel hulls so the dive team will target pathways of boats and check vessels, marine structures and popular anchoring spots.  If infested vessels are found, owners may be requested to remove and antifoul them.

Previous surveys have shown our local harbour to be free of these pests. And Covid is on the decline according to an analysis  by Rodger Gallagher at Raglan23.co.nz Based on Ministry of Health data, cases in our Region peaked in July and have steadily declined since then to the point where they’re the lowest they’ve been since the Omicron outbreak began. Currently we’re expecting to average 3 new cases a day in the community with 22 people isolating at any one time That is the Raglan news for Wednesday 31st August 2022. https://raglanradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/TownHallwaves.jpg
