Raglan News Bulletin Wednesday, October 5

With only a few days left to vote in the 2022 local body election the Waikato District vote is still down on previous elections at the same stage of the voting period. This includes the 2016 election which set the previous low in turnouts for the Waikato District.

Voting turnout is varying widely throughout the country and although Waikato District is low at 80% compared to this time last year it’s nothing compared to Hamilton City which is tracking at less than 60% of last year’s vote.  Nonetheless electoral officer Dale Ofsoske says he is expecting a deluge of votes to arrive in the next few days.

For those who haven’t voted yet, the voting period closes at midday on Saturday and official advice is to hand deliver your votes to a council office from now on as there is no guarantee votes will be counted if they’re put in the mail.  And if you need to do a special vote, which is likely since many people have missed out on receiving voting papers this year your last chance will be Friday as we’ve heard you might not be able to do so on Saturday.

For those who didn’t make it to the Meet the Candidates event in the town hall a couple of weeks ago, video of that meeting is now available on the Community Board, Community Radio and Raglan Noticeboard facebook pages, or directly at vimeo.com under the name Raglan Meet the candidates.

The community board is still wanting to hear from the community about how we want the proposed bus service in Raglan to work . They have put out a revised 3 minute survey form on the community board website and facebook page or you can fill it out at the council office and community house if you want to do it the old fashioned way with a pen.
