Raglan Community Radio awarded Narina Hurst, or Nan as she was known to us, was awarded a life membership by the station members at their recent AGM.
The crew at the station had been planning for a few months to award the life membership to Nan at our annual meeting but missed out on the opportunity as she passed away 5 days before they were due to meet. After a short discussion everyone present agreed that we still wanted to honour Nan and would give the award to Peter and the rest of the family, while also putting her name up on the Life Membership board, created by Chris Meek, in the studio.
Station Manager Aaron Mooar spoke about how Nan had always been a steady presence during times of stress for the organisation and how her decision to volunteer for the role of treasurer came at an important time in the station’s history and was a crucial first step in the rebirth of the station a decade ago.
Chairperson Sean Reid reminisced about how Nan turned out to be a really effective debt collector for the station – the rest of the committee, at the time, were equal parts pleased and amused at how quickly people’s resistance was broken down by the combination of determined character wrapped up inside her classic cuddly Nana persona.
Nan did her Country & Gospel Show for 15 years after joining the station around 2008, She was on the committee by 2010 and was treasurer from 2011 – 2019. She was a rock for the station when we were going through difficult times and a steady presence during the good times. She will be missed greatly. https://raglanradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Lorraine,%20Peter,%20Shirely%20with%20Life%20member%20award%20cropped.jpg
